You all probably know each other, but would you introduce yourselves to me? Who are you? What connection to health care (if any) do you have? What are your expectations for this course? What examples of ethical concerns in health care are you aware of?
Hello,
ReplyDeleteMy name is Adam Morgan. Currently, I do not have any connections to healthcare besides routine doctor appointments. I have studied ethics in regards to everyday life and business at NKU. My expectations of this class is to learn about the ethics of healthcare decisions. A great example of an ethical concern that is brought up frequently is the choice to die, and whether or not to make the decision to let someone die (ex. pulling the plug.)
I am Rebecca Grammer, wife, mother of three living children, one deceased child, and grandmother of five, soon to be six. I am employed at Cincinnati Children's Hospital, where I've been for almost 8 years now. I cannot say that I have any expectations as of yet for this course, but after watching the lectures, I just hope my brain can still function. One of my biggest ethical concerns in healthcare is abuse of prescription drugs.
ReplyDeleteMy name is Sommer Caldwell. I am currently a medical biller at TCI Billing in Cincinnati, OH. I previously took a combination class of healthcare law and ethics. I hope to walk away from this class with more knowledge and formed opinions about the issues that exist within our healthcare system today. Some of these issues may include elderly abuse, fraud, investigational and non-coventional treatments.
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI am Lisa Casteel. I am a single mother of two (a son, 20 and a daughter, 16). I have previously earned a degree in architectural design from EKU and worked as a designer for 21 years before being laid off in 2008. With the construction industry being in such bad shape and recently becoming single, I thought it a good time to take my life in a new direction. I have no healthcare experience. I currently work full time as a store manager for Ann's Hallmark and work part time for Home Depot. An ethical concern I have is doctors performing unnecessary procedures.
My name is Connie Lawson. I've been married for 29 years and I have 4 children, 2 grandchildren with another on the way. The expectations I have for this class is to learn in more detail about ethical concerns in healthcare today. Some of the connections I have to healthcare are my aunt and uncle, who both taught 1st year med students at Notre Dame. My aunt graduated from Thomas More many years ago when it was still Villa Madonna. I also have a doctor friend who is a psychiatrist and we have discussed the issue that concerns me the most which is the assisted suicide. There are a lot of ethical questions regarding if a medical professional should be assisting someone end their life or not.
ReplyDeleteI am Judy Tanabe originally from Honolulu Hawaii. I moved to Kentucky in 1989 with my two children whom now have given me three beautiful grandchildren. I am a licensed state optician for OH and KY. Education is an Associates Degree in Applied Science and Associates Degree in Business. I have managed a private OD's office for 11 years. I am currently an optical manger for Luxottica Group, the Sears Brand. My connection to healthcare is in many areas, such as insurance, patient care, HIPAA compliance, etc. The expectations I have for this class is to understand what makes certain decisions on one's own life an issue of ethics. To appreciate what is the bases of ethical behavior. (Ex. What is ethical to me might not be to another person, who is the judge)
ReplyDeleteMy name is Charlotte Harris. I do not have any current connections to healthcare. I have previsouly taken this course with you as a traditional student, unfortunately I was not ready to learn at that time. Many years later I am back in school and going strong! My expectations of this course are to learn several different ethical theories and understand how they apply to everyday life. An ethical issue I am aware of is the regualtion of vaccines by the government, specifically the possibility of the HPV vaccine being given to young girls.
ReplyDeleteMy name is Sarah McKnight. I am a single mother of two wonderful kids, son 10 and daughter 8. I currently work for Ohio GI & Liver Institute in the billing dept. I have worked in the medical billing field for almost 12 yrs. I hope to walk away from this class more of a critical thinker. I want to explore issues such as elderly abuse or prescription drug abuse as well as healthcare fraud.
