  2. My expectations of the class is to learn about the morals that apply values and judgments to the practice of medicine. 1a) Philosophy is the study of general and fundamental problems, such as those connected with existence, knowledge, values, reason, mind, and language. 1b) Thinking philosophically about death is important because there is one thing I can be sure of is that I am going to die. Life couldn't exist in the first place if we were not capable of dying. So to be alive, we must die. Sometimes we are forced to make decisions to end life for reasons such as money and condition of patient. In regards to cloning, there is a huge gray area that has yet to be figured out after the birth of Dolly.

  3. Many people have different interpretations of what philosophy is. One of these interpretations is that philosophy is the study of our world and the rationalizations of the problems and views of the issues in society. A philosophical approach to issues such as death or cloning is important because there are no right or wrong answers. There are simply structured theories that are supported by evidence and opinion. You can agree or disagree on the issues, but your opinion may be different than the next person.

  4. I hope to gain from this class the ability to look at issues from different perspectives. Most of the opinions I have are based on my upbringing and my religious background. My faith has become very important to me in recent years. I know what I am expected to believe is right, but sometimes I feel some decisions about one's life are their decisions.

  5. What I wish to get out of this class is the critical, analytical thinking process of Philosophy. 1a. Philosophy is to examine world-views with questions, understanding, rational of thought, and how it fits into society. 1b.Thinking philosophically about death will take the fear out of dying and comfort to those who are losing their love one. It may rationally help to understand the acceptance process. Thinking philosophically about cloning can initiate questions of pros, cons, and the future effects on the entity itself. It can also launch appreciation, knowledge, recognition, and the worlds view on how it may or may not fit into society.

  6. I hope to gain knowledge that allows me to apply and weigh ethical dilemmas that I could face in the future.
Philosophy is the manner in which a person places values and beliefs in their life and awareness that others may not hold the same view.
It is important to think about death and cloning philosophically since people look and think about these subjects very differently. These two items are the beginning and ending of life. Depending upon your beliefs, these acts may be better left to a supreme being.

  7. By taking this class I hope to be a more critical thinker. 1a) Philosophy is a study of problems, such as those connected with existence, values, knowledge or reason. addressing such problems by its critical, generally systematic approach and its reliance on rational argument. 1b) It is important to think philosophically about certain issues simply for the fact that everyone thinks from different angles.
